That is very cool. Nice job Yota and E Ink. I hope some designers utilize the E Ink flexibility of the screen technology... Use it on curved surfaces.

Hallo i am in a rural village in western Kenya and i bear witness to the undeniable fact that Information is a powerful poverty destroyer in Rural Africa. I also saw a wonderful picture of children in a classroom in Maasai country lifting up kindles in glee.
i have used the internet to help my community get information using a village noticeboard and through the internet Google got to know of my innovation and they came over and shot a two minute video seen by alot of people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE63BYWdqC4

as we look towards providing personal e readers for kids a Public Display e-ink noticeboard can do alot to keep whole communities educated day by day.
i have a fantastic idea that can merge the two
regards

I am not sure how it the years-long persistency can be used.. but
An e-Ink panel with a touch layer can double up as a second screen for the many android phones out there supporting MHL standards. (We know that USB is a one way communication port.) The micro usb port on the Android Phone can output the display to an e-Ink display with a touch layer. The screen would retain the image, until it changes. Any user interaction via touch would be read via the same micro-usb port, after which the display changes. Of course, there could be an app running in the background which could control the secondary display. Even the E-Ink screen could be made as a primary display, with the back-lit LCD as the secondary, only to consume multimedia... Hope I could convey.

I really like the e-ink technology ! The downside is that the contrast is not as good as paper, but with the new backlit e-readers ( i.e kobo glo, kindle paperwhite) it looks a lot better and since it's light is directed on the paper instead of your face, you don't feel tired or have an headache with it.

Absolutely! E-Ink rocks! I certainly would like to have E-Ink on more devices. It is potentially much healthier in a world where we watch too much content..
