DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH GROUP
Reporting directly to the VP of Research and Advanced Development, this position is responsible for the leadership and management of multiple research projects designed to advance the performance and understanding of E Ink's paper-like electrophoretic display technology. This individual will be accountable for delivering these research projects within a committed schedule and budget, as well as providing expert individual technical leadership and mentoring in one or more relevant areas of science such as polymer chemistry, pigment chemistry, or colloid science. The successful candidate for this position will have a unique opportunity to lead a talented group of scientists in the continuation of dramatic scientific breakthroughs of e-paper inks and will help guide the technical directions and inventions of this high profile company that has been recognized as the leader in the development of electronic paper.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of scientists and engineers including the development and growth of existing talent and hiring of new talent as required;
- Plan and direct specific research projects to deliver to committed goals;
- Coordinate activities across functional departments to ensure smooth handoffs of research projects to the development and other internal teams;
- Represent E ink in external customer and key partner project reviews;
- Maintain a specific individual technical expertise and apply this knowledge to the research projects;
- Provide strategic input to the senior management team; and
- Manage a department budget.
Skill Requirements
- M.S. or Ph.D. with 10+ years of industrial experience including significant experience in technical leadership and project management including resource estimation and scheduling;
- Demonstrated success in directly leading and managing a group of scientists and engineers, including senior technical staff, to deliver to committed goals;
- Technical expertise in polymer, colloid, surface or organic chemistry is preferred;
- Must have excellent communication skills, a strong sense of urgency, a performance metrics-driven style, and have superb execution skills;
- Sound analytical skills, attention to details, strong problem solving skills and a demonstrated high level of creativity; and
- US Citizenship is required. Experience with government contracts is desirable.
