E Ink Launches Spectra, The World's First True Three Pigment Electronic Paper Display
E Ink® Holdings, "E Ink" (8069.TW), an ePaper and Electronic Shelf Label visionary, today introduced E Ink Spectra, the world's first three pigment electronic paper display (EPD), featuring black, white and red pigments. Spectra is currently being demoed at SID Display Week 2013 in Vancouver, CA.

Thursday was a very good day for display screen maker E Ink Corp. of Cambridge. Giant online retailer Amazon.com revealed a new lineup of its Kindle tablet computers and e-readers, including the Kindle Paperwhite, a $119 device built around an illuminated version of E Ink's power-sipping screen. On the very same day, Canadian e-book maker Kobo Inc. rolled out three readers with E Ink screens. Both followed an August release of an upgraded e-book from Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp.

In a few short years E Ink has turned into a company that's synonymous with the sector they are in. It's the Hoover, Blu-tac, Biro, Filofax, Sellotape of the ereader world. Its technology is currently in 93 per cent of all ereaders and a recent buyout of its nearest rival SiPix should see the market completely sewn up by E Ink.

"Hands on with Amazon's new Kindle e-readers"
A year ago, I walked away from Amazon's Kindle event thinking that the e-readers shown off there were merely mild, lazy, and ultimately disappointing refreshes of existing models. That wasn't the case Thursday following the latest round of Kindle unveilings. I had a chance to delve into the new $119 Kindle Paperwhite and its $69 sibling, still simply called Kindle and was impressed by what I saw.
