E INK ACHIEVES USD 1 BILLION IN REVENUE FOR 2011
HSINCHU, Taiwan, November 8, 2011 – E Ink® Holdings, the leading developer and marketer of electronic paper display (EPD) technologies, today announced it has reached $1 Billion (NT$ 30 billion) in revenue for 2011. Its consolidated October revenues reached NT$ 5.329 billion, representing a growth of 93% as compared to that in October 2010, and a growth of 16% as compared to September 2011. Accumulated sales from January to October totaled NT$ 33.271 billion, representing a growth of 83% over the same period in 2010. The Company achieved this milestone in less than four quarters due to increasing sales of its ePaper displays from customers including Hanvon, Plastic Logic, Bookeen, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and Sony.
"Despite the difficult economy, sales of our ePaper and LCD displays continue to rise due in part to the new wave of eReaders and tablets debuting just in time for the holiday season," said Scott Liu, Chairman of E Ink. "We also see tremendous opportunity for our Triton color displays for eTextbooks that we believe will transform education."
E Ink continues to revolutionize the display industry with its ePaper displays that deliver high-contrast, sunlight readability and low-power performance, further closing the digital divide between paper and electronic displays. In October, E Ink's Triton™ color display was a winner of the prestigious Wall Street Journal 2011 Technology Innovation Awards in the consumer electronics category.
In addition to ePaper display products, E Ink's LCD business has also seen growth, with major customers recently releasing price-competitive tablet PCs using FFS wide viewing angle technology by Hydis, E Ink's subsidiary in South Korea. The Company expects tablets and eReaders to be complementary products, with tablets offering mobile multimedia interactivity, and eReaders offering the paper-like experience and long battery life needed for immersive reading.
