Jim Iuliano To Discuss Electronic Paper And The Future Of Publishing At TextOneZero New York 2001
Cambridge, MA. - April 23, 2001 – E Ink Corporation, the leading developer and marketer of electronic ink technology, announced today that Jim Iuliano, president and CEO, will deliver the opening keynote at TextOneZero New York 2001, a premier conference and exhibition for the digital publishing industry. TextOneZero will be held May 22-23, 2001 at the Marriott Hotel in Brooklyn, NY. Iuliano will open the conference on Tuesday, May 22 at 9:15 a.m. He will discuss how electronic paper will impact the publishing industry.
E Ink will also be represented in a panel about New Display Technologies on May 22 at 3:15 p.m. Michael McCreary, vice president of research and development, will participate in a discussion about how new display technologies, such as electronic ink, will effect the general acceptance of books in digital format. David Palmer, consultant to IBM on e-publishing development will moderate the panel.
E Ink recently achieved three significant milestones in its effort to create the next publishing medium: On April 10, 2001 E Ink demonstrated the world's first active matrix electronic ink display. The display prototype is 12.1 inches diagonally with the resolution of a typical laptop computer monitor and is capable of producing high resolution illustrations and text.
On February 27, 2001 E Ink announced a comprehensive agreement with Philips Components, a division of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG), to jointly develop high resolution electronic ink displays for use in smart handheld devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and electronic books. The paper-like look of electronic ink will enable lighter, more readable consumer electronic devices that consume significantly less power.
In addition, on November 20, 2000 E Ink demonstrated the world's first flexible, paper-like electronic display. The prototype is a 25-square-inch display constructed using E Ink's electronic ink and Lucent's drive circuits printed on thin, flexible plastic. The electronic ink enables the display's paper-like qualities: extraordinary brightness and contrast under a wide range of lighting conditions; easy viewing from all angles; low power consumption; and flexibility.
