E INK TO PRESENT AT INTERNATIONAL DISPLAY WORKSHOP IN JAPAN

E Ink and Philips to Discuss Developments in Displays for Mobile Devices

Cambridge, MA. - December 3, 2002 - E Ink Corporation, the leading developer and marketer of electronic ink technology for paper-like displays, today announced two presentations at this year's International Display Workshop (IDW '02) in Hiroshima, Japan.

Both papers focus on the integration of active matrix backplanes with E Ink's electronic ink display material. In the first presentation, E Ink will present on its development progress towards next generation flexible backplanes. In the second presentation, Royal Philips Electronics, an investor in E Ink, will focus on near-term commercialization of the first active-matrix electronic ink display modules.

Joanna Au, an engineer on E Ink's microelectronics team, will present a paper titled "Ultra-Thin 3.1-in. Active-Matrix Electronic Ink Display for Mobile Devices," which discusses the development and fabrication of a high-resolution active-matrix electronic ink display on thin steel foil substrate. The talk will take place on Thursday, December 5 at 11:15am in the Active-Matrix Electronic Paper session. This paper is presenting on the "world's thinnest active matrix display" research prototype announced by E Ink in June of this year.

Alex Henzen, of Philips Mobile Display Systems, will present a joint paper written by Philips and E Ink, titled "Development of Active Matrix Electronic Ink Display Modules for Smart Handheld Applications". This paper will discuss the two companies' joint development efforts to commercialize paper-like displays, and review the benefits for highly portable mobile devices. The talk also appears in the Active-Matrix Electronic Paper session and will begin at 11:35am.

E Ink is currently working with its partners, Philips Electronics and TOPPAN Printing, Co., Ltd. to brings its paper-like display technology to the market with first products envisioned to be in the mobile handheld device space.
