E INK AWARDED HIGHEST HONOR FOR ITS ELECTRONIC PAPER DISPLAY PRODUCTS BY LEADING INDUSTRY ORGANIZATION
Society for Information Display Presents E Ink with Gold Display Component of the Year Award

Cambridge, MA. - May 24, 2005 – E Ink Corporation, the leading developer and marketer of electronic paper display technology, today announced that they were presented with the Gold Display Component of the Year Award by the Society For Information Display (SID), the leading international professional society exclusively devoted to the advancement of electronic-display technology.
E Ink was presented with this prestigious award "for its substantial innovation in the science and technology" of electronic paper display technology, according to the SID Display of the Year Award Committee. In addition to E Ink, SONY Corporation was presented with a Gold Award for its LIBRIé electronic-book reading device which utilizes a high resolution electronic paper display based on E Ink's technology. The award committee recognized SONY "for incorporating a novel display technology in the design of an e-book that is more appealing to consumers, and which brings the e-book closer to fulfilling its potential." E Ink's technology was represented in two of the three gold award categories given by SID for 2004.
E Ink Corporation products enable a new type of electronic display with a bright white background and crisp text and pictures similar to printed documents. Once updated, the display can maintain an image without using power, enabling over 90% power savings compared to traditional displays and greatly extending the battery life of portable devices. Some versions are available on plastic and can be flexed and rolled, combining the complete look and feel of a paper document with the versatility of digital control and wireless update.
As part of the award ceremony, E Ink acknowledged the notable contribution of its employees and partners in the development and commercialization of this revolutionary "first ever" technology. Of particular note, E Ink CEO, Russell Wilcox, called out the contributions of TOPPAN Printing Company. "As a world-class supplier to the display industry, TOPPAN has been an excellent partner in the development and commercialization of our E Ink Imaging Film products," said Wilcox. "They have played critical roles in the development of materials and processes which allow for E Ink to broadly supply high quality, high volume electronic paper display products to the market."
In addition to the SONY LIBRIé device, E Ink's display products are also being used by Vossloh Information Technologies (VIT) of Germany and TOPPAN Printing Co, Ltd. in Japan for providing information in public areas such as rail and bus stations. Currently in field trials, both companies expect to have products on the market later this year. E Ink's Ink-In-Motion® advertising products are currently available from two of its partners, Neolux Corporation in Korea and Midori Mark in Japan. Ink-In-Motion is an animated electronic display that gives advertisers the proven promotional sales lift of motion displays in a paper-thin, battery-operated package. Most recently Seiko Watch Corporation announced the planned launch of a revolutionary curved watch before the end of this year.
In addition to these applications, future uses for E Ink's technology include smartcards, watches, clocks, medical devices, portable consumer electronics, and mobile phones.
