E INK DELIVERS RETAIL POINT-OF-PURCHASE DISPLAY TO SINOPAC BANK
New signage applications takes E Ink electronic paper beyond eBooks
Taipei City, Taiwan, March 15, 2011 – E Ink Holdings, Sino Pac Bank and the Miramar department store today announced the launch of the "Sino Pac – Miramar Joint Card" promotion utilizing E Ink Holdings' Ink-In-Motion™ technology. Ink-In-Motion is a flashing electronic point-of-purchase display that combines the proven promotional effectiveness of motion with the visual appeal of ink-on-paper. These displays can be easily viewed from all angles and under virtually any lighting conditions.
Ink-In-Motion™ point-of-purchase displays use the E Ink SURF platform. Ideal for retail environments where power access is limited, Ink-In-Motion™ displays can be driven by batteries, utilizing very little power while attracting a lot of attention. Retailers are able to change the content of the sign by replacing the printed color overlay on top of E Ink electronic paper display (EPD) and reuse the display. This recycling method can help retailers to reduce their carbon footprint.
"SURF is an acronym for Segmented, Ultra-thin, Rugged and Flexible. Its products possess the advantages of E Ink technology, for example, low power consumption, and are reusable, which makes them the best choices amongst green devices." Scott Liu, Chairman of E ink Holdings said. "In retail applications, SURF products can be used in sizes ranging from a few meters for billboards to a few inches for price tags. The application of E Ink ePaper is broad. In addition to eBook readers, E Ink has been helping different industries to create innovative solutions for emerging applications."
E Ink EPDs are currently used in eBook readers, wrist watches, keypads of mobile phones, memory and battery indicators, and displays for portable medical devices, among other applications. In the future, E Ink displays could be used in novel new applications, such as pill bottle labels and highway toll system tags, by leveraging the key features of the technology: sunlight readability, low power consumption and re-usability.
The Ink-In-Motion™ retail displays adopted by Bank Sino Pac and Miramar will be located in the food court of Miramar department stores. Completed designs using Ink-In-Motion displays are also available from E Ink's partners Neolux Corporation and Motion Display. For more information, see here.
