E Ink Advances Low-Carbon Operations Across Taiwan and China, Securing LEED Gold Certification

BILLERICA, Mass., Nov. 21, 2025 — E Ink (8069.TW), the originator, pioneer, and global commercial leader in ePaper technology, today announced that its Hsinchu Headquarters in Taiwan and operations in Yangzhou, China, have received LEED v4.1 Gold certification for new construction from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

To meet growing demand for ePaper, E Ink is expanding its manufacturing footprint and will more than double its current production area while prioritizing low-carbon building design to support sustainable operations and move toward its global net-zero goal.

Construction of E Ink’s Hsinchu headquarters began in late 2021 and was completed in 2024. As the company’s first LEED-certified facility, the building embedded sustainability from the outset, emphasizing energy conservation, carbon reduction, and resource efficiency across site selection, architecture, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. The building performed strongly across multiple LEED categories, including Energy and Atmosphere, Water Efficiency, Innovation, and Regional Priority, exemplifying holistic sustainability in both design and operations.

For energy and water management, the facility includes a high-performance envelope, chilled-water HVAC, smart lighting, and an energy management system (EMS) that deliver 26% energy savings. Rainwater harvesting and zone-based lighting further enhance efficiency and occupant comfort. Outdoor lighting uses directional LED fixtures to minimize light pollution and energy use. During construction, green practices reduced waste, achieving a 75% construction waste diversion rate.

The building also integrates E Ink’s own energy-saving technologies, including ePaper meeting-room booking systems, parking displays, visitor badges, and segmented decorative displays that combine aesthetics with sustainability.

At E Ink’s Gemini Towers in Yangzhou, high-insulation wall panels, low power E glass, smart cooling and lighting, low VOC paint, and CO₂-sensing ventilation work in concert with a Facility Monitoring and Control System (FMCS) that enables 4.77 million kWh in annual electricity savings, equivalent to 2,797 metric tons of CO₂ avoided each year. A 9.9 MW on-site solar system generates approximately 11.8 million kWh of renewable electricity annually, reducing 6,910 metric tons of carbon emissions (roughly the same impact as planting 360,000 trees) and powering EV charging on campus.

The Yangzhou site also features water-saving fixtures and rainwater harvesting, collecting about 56,000 tons of water annually for irrigation, solar panel cleaning, and general use. During construction, waste was reduced by more than 40% versus LEED baselines, with an 82.1% reuse rate. Core materials such as steel and concrete were sourced locally to cut transportation-related emissions.

From product innovation to facility operations, E Ink is executing a company-wide low-carbon strategy. The LEED Gold certifications in Hsinchu and Yangzhou are major milestones in that journey and set a benchmark for future global expansions.
